What is Tea?

Strictly speaking tea can be defined as the solution derived from steeping the leaves from a Camellia sinensis in hot water.

In more common usage however tea refers to beverages prepared by immersing cured plant products (including leaves, bark, twigs and flowers) in hot water.

It is important to note that tea (Ti) tree oil is not a product of the Camellia sinensis, it is most commonly derived from the Melaleuca alternifolia and should never be taken internally as it is particularly toxic (tea tree oil is a very effective topical antiseptic).
